Vehicle stolen from Upper Darby used as getaway car in Upper Merion shooting, attempted car theft
Suspects reportedly involved in an attempted car theft and shooting outside a King of Prussia apartment fled the scene in a vehicle stolen from Upper Darby days earlier — and then traveled through Upper Darby while trying to evade police.
According to news reports, Upper Merion Township Police were dispatched to the Kingswood Apartment Complex on South Gulph Court around 9:45 on Feb. 6 after receiving reports of shots fired.
A witness reportedly received a Ring-camera motion alert and observed two people standing next to the witness’ car, with one of them trying to break in. When the witness yelled out to the suspects, one of the individuals fired two handgun shots toward the apartment complex and jumped into a waiting Jeep Cherokee that police said had been stolen from Upper Darby days earlier.
About 30 minutes after the shooting, an Upper Darby police officer reportedly spotted the Jeep Cherokee and attempted a traffic stop. However, the driver fled to Philadelphia, where a pursuit by Philadelphia police led to the Jeep crashing, the suspects trying to flee the scene, and ultimately, police arresting three juvenile male suspects.
