Philadelphia mans attempts to hide under stairs during Upper Darby burglary, police say
A Philadelphia man found under the basement stairs of an Upper Darby home faces felony burglary charges after its owner called police in December.
According to police, on Tuesday, Dec. 2, around 12:08 p.m., the Upper Darby Police Department was called to the unit block of First Street for a possible burglary. Upon arriving, police said they spoke with the property’s owner who said he’d seen things that “appeared to have been moved around the window area.” When they entered the home, police said they additionally found the door had been forced open with visible damage to the frame and locks, which the owner confirmed as new.
Police said that, upon entry, they announced the police presence. As officers entered the basement, they said they located a man “attempting to conceal himself under the stairwell.”
Denzel Andrew Robinson, 33, of the 2300 block of West Cumberland Street, Philadelphia, was taken into custody after he was discovered. The owner of the property confirmed he did not give anyone permission to be in the residence, and Robinson specifically did not.
Robinson is charged with felony counts of burglary and criminal trespassing. He is held in county jail, unable to post bail ten percent of his $30,0000 monetary bail, since Dec. 2. His charges, held for court, will be presented at a formal arraignment scheduled for Feb. 4 at 8 a.m. before Magisterial District Judge Christopher R. Mattox.
