Target’s ‘Heroes and Helpers’ will help local kids shop for the holidays tonight

This evening, state troopers and other first responders will pair up with local children in need for a fun-filled event that helps the young participants wrap up their holiday shopping.

“Target Heroes and Helpers,” formerly known as “Shop with a Cop,” will take place Dec. 15 from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at the Target at 600 Hatton Dr., in Glen Mills. While participating children have already been chosen via referrals from local schools, social workers, counselors and community organizations, there is still time to donate to help fulfill holiday wishes.

Those hoping to donate should reach out to Trooper David Nguyen at 610-558-7069; 100% of contributions from businesses, community groups and individuals go directly toward purchases made by participating children.

Thirteen children are set to participate in this year’s event, and each will receive $250 to shop for themselves and their families. Troopers and/or first responders — including members of the Concordville Fire Company — will walk the children through the store and help them choose gifts that fit within their budget. The children will also be provided dinner (courtesy of Target), participate in holiday-themed games and have an opportunity to gift-wrap their purchases.

“I became involved because helping kids and engaging positively with the community is a core part of why I serve as a trooper,” Nguyen told Fideri News Network. “This program gives us the chance to have meaningful interactions with children who may be going through difficult circumstances.”
