Lansdowne Borough Police celebrate chief’s 25 years of on-going service

This week, the community and police together congratulated one of its own on a quarter century of serving the Borough of Lansdowne. Chief Ken Rutherford of the Lansdowne Police Department was honored for 25 years in the force.

“This week we’re celebrating along with Chief Ken Rutherford – Lansdowne Police on the occasion of his 25th year in law enforcement,” said a post on the department’s Facebook page

It is not just the number of dedicated years that the community celebrated. The chief has also utilized his time to update the department over his career.

“During his tenure as Chief, we’ve made great strides in building community through our outreach programs, as well as gaining accreditation through the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association,” said the department’s post. “Those are two pretty big feathers in our cap in a short amount of time. Please join us in congratulating Chief on a quarter century of dedicated service.”

The community followed the sentiments with an outpouring of congratulations and well wishes for Rutherford.

“Awesome! Congratulations! Lansdowne is a better place with you in it! Thank you for your service,” said Jeffery W. Cook.

Liliane Chero Coyle agreed.

“Congratulations Chief! Always stay safe,” she wrote in the comments. “I can’t believe it’s been that long! God bless you, and thank you for your service!”

“An excellent chief dedicated to the safety and wellbeing of the people of Lansdowne,” said Chris Mooney. “Outstanding and congratulations!”

As chief, Rutherford oversees a wide variety of roles for the Lansdowne Police Department. According to the department’s website, those often include “providing leadership and strategic direction for all aspects of departmental operations.”

“He oversees patrol, investigations, training, and administrative functions while working closely with Borough leadership, community partners, and residents to enhance public safety and trust,” said the page. “Chief Rutherford is actively involved in policy development, officer training, and community engagement initiatives, with a strong focus on professionalism, accountability, and service. On a day-to-day basis, he supports officers and staff, manages resources, and ensures the department remains responsive to the needs of the community.”

Congratulations, chief. Here’s to 25 more!
